EducationI received my Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri's School of Law and now work for the University of Missouri. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology.
ExperienceI have tutored English and writing for over eight years, and specialize in helping students from middle school to graduate school drastically improve their writing.
I love writing, but I understand that it is not easy because it was not always easy for me. In high school and college, I often meandered my way through writing assignments and struggled with writer’s block. My experiences in law school and in legal practice, however, forced me to drastically change the process I had always used to write. I now use the techniques I developed to help others improve the way they approach the writing process - whether they're middle schoolers struggling with essays or a graduate student trying to finish his or her thesis.
I love the writing process and would welcome the opportunity to work with you or your child. I enjoy motivating students to learn and grow; I don’t believe in passive busywork or grammar worksheets. When I tutor, my aim is to keep my students engaged 100% of the time. I use visuals, brainstorming games, and rewards to help my students get the most out of each lesson. In sum, my goal is to try to change the way my students learn to write, leaving them with writing skills and methods they can continue to use long after they no longer need my tutoring.
Writing tutoring in person: $30 per hour (or $50 for a two-hour block of time, which I recommend when working on long essays together).
Editing: In my final year of law school, I served as the Managing Editor of an internationally-distributed law journal, editing submissions by both professors and students and coaching authors to improve articles. I have also edited full length novels and short stories.
Editing with extensive comments and revisions: $20 per hour (I always view the document ahead of time and give a flat rate upfront. So, for example, a 10 page graduate paper often requires 3 hours of editing time; I would give the student a flat rate of $60, and that is the fee I would charge even if the document required more editing time).
HobbiesI enjoy hiking, playing with my dog, writing novels and poetry, travel photography, tutoring, and reading.

Amber used to be a tutor for me and my wife. We came from Japan and my wife cannot speak English at all. Amber's lesson was done not only inside the room. She sometime took my wife out to a grocery store to teach English which were actually used in the US life. I have a problem with pronunciation. Amber tried to do root cause of my problems and my pronunciation seemed to be better after her advice. We really enjoyed the lessons with her and would like to have another lesson in future if we have opportunity.
